East Bay Sidewalk Plant Tours

Inspired by local musician and climate change activist Adley Penner of Bicicletas Por La Paz, Alexis began leading monthly Sidewalk Plant Tours in 2016. Based on the idea of showcasing what was actually growing on our streets, local neighborhoods and community gardens, the East Bay Sidewalk Plant Tour Meetup was launched. With now over 350 members, local garden explorers have stumbled upon West Oaklands’ wide network of community gardens, Lake Meritt’s estuary and pollinator gardens, Grand Avenues Morcom Rose Garden and so much more. Every month we highlight a new neighborhood to showcase what locals are growing or as we might say, what the local plants are growing on their streets!
